Few things are more associated with London than this huge 97 meter tall tower, topped with a gigantic clock and a resounding bell, which is actually called Big Ben. The size of Ben is indeed imposing, and it weighs more than 13 tons. The sound of this bell is known around the world as the call of BBC radio. The tower is especially beautiful at night, in the light of all four dials that illuminate it on each side. Right next to Big Ben, stretching along the banks of the Thames, is the British Parliament building, the Palace of Westminster. You won’t be able to climb Big Ben yet, but you can buy a tour of the Houses of Parliament and see a real political debate. Also consider a tour of all the major sights in London.
The address is Palace of Westminster, Old Palace Yard, London SW1.
Subway stations: Charing Cross, Victoria or Waterloo.
Open hours: Guided tours of the Houses of Parliament on Saturdays.
Tickets cost from £18.50.
